What is the campus like at USC?
USC’s 229-acre campus is designed to foster a strong sense of community and engagement. It includes state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and research centers, in addition to 22 libraries and information centers and 10 performance halls, providing students with cutting-edge resources to support their academic and extracurricular endeavors. The campus also features numerous cultural and recreational facilities and notable landmarks such as the USC Fisher Museum of Art, the Galen Center for athletics, and the Doheny Memorial Library. Due to its close proximity to downtown Los Angeles, USC students have access to a wealth of professional, cultural, and entertainment opportunities, making it an exciting and enriching place to study.
USC hosts more than 1,000 recognized student clubs and organizations, including 120+ volunteer opportunities, 90+ student religious organizations, and 50+ active club sports. There are also more than 40 fraternity and sorority organizations, and more than 2,000 students choose to join a chapter.

How do I apply to USC?
USC has a streamlined application process that only accepts the Common Application. The university offers both Early Action and Regular Decision application options. The EA option is available to all applicants except those applying to a major that requires a portfolio or audition, and the application deadline is November 1. The Regular Decision deadline is December 1st for applications requiring the submission of a portfolio or audition, and January 15th for all other Regular Decision applicants.
In addition to the Common App, complete applications for admission must include the following components:
- A complete writing supplement with two short answer essays
- Official transcript
- One letter of recommendation from a school counselor or a teacher; two letters of recommendations if applying to the School of Cinematic Arts
- Portfolio, resume and/or additional writing samples if required by major
- SAT or ACT scores (Optional)
- Mid-year report (when available)
- Application affirmations

Varsity athletics and recreational sports are a major part of USC’s culture. USC’s sports teams have won 136 national championships, 85 of which are Men’s NCAA National Championships. With 21 varsity teams, 50+ sports clubs, and numerous intramural sports teams, there is something for everyone to explore regardless of fitness level.
What are USC’s core curriculum and programs?
USC offers diverse Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs throughout its 23 schools. Students in the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences must meet the general education requirements by taking eight courses in the Core Literacy category and two courses in the Global Perspectives category. All first-year students must enroll in a General Education Seminar during their first year. USC awards credit for secondary exams as well, including AP, IB, and A-Levels. USC is committed to interdisciplinary education, and as such, the university offers abundant opportunities for students to explore their diverse interests. One of the best options for this academic exploration is through an interdisciplinary major/minor combination. Students who demonstrate excellence as they study in two distinct fields may be eligible for the Renaissance Scholars distinction. Additionally, each year, 200 freshmen participate in the Thematic Option Honors Program, a special core curriculum that provides students the feel of a small liberal arts college within USC’s campus!

The Office of Research is equipped with abundant resources to help undergraduates connect with research opportunities, secure funding, and share their findings with others. For the 2024-2025 school year, the total estimated cost of attendance for first-year students living on campus is $95,225 (including tuition, fees, and personal expenses). Approximately two-thirds of USC students receive financial aid, with $814 million of aid disbursed during the 2022-23 school year.
