In recent years, early admissions pathways have become increasingly popular amongst admissions offices at top universities and motivated students alike. Early decision and early action pools can significantly increase colleges’ yield rates and address institutional priorities early in the application cycle, making early applicants particularly desirable at top schools. Likewise, students with a clear sense of their collegiate ambitions are leveraging early admissions to increase their chances of success at their dream schools: at Brown, Class of 2030 applicants admitted through Early Decision were accepted at roughly 16.5%, compared with about 3.94% in Regular Decision, an increase of more than four times. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt’s early pool was admitted at roughly 11.9%, compared to its record-low Regular Decision rate of just 2.8%.
But earning an acceptance in the early admissions round entails more than simply choosing to apply before the November deadlines. A successful early application strategy requires intentionality, tactical thinking, and a holistic evaluation of a student’s profile and college list.
At Command Education, we equip students to consider their early application options in light of their goals, background, and odds of success at the various schools on their list. Below, Director of Student Initiatives Kelly shares insights about how Command Education Senior Mentors empower students to create a data-backed plan for the admissions cycle and, ultimately, to succeed in the early application process.
