2018 Find Your Hook™ Workshop

Find Your Hook™ is a two-week crash course designed to give high school students the skills and knowledge they need to stand out from the crowd. Find Your Hook™ teaches valuable skills and strategies to help students get admissions officers, hiring managers, and contest judges to sit up and take notice.

Developed in partnership with Dr. Marc Brackett and Dr. Robin Stern of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.

Marc Brackett, Ph.D., is an award-winning researcher, the Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, and professor at the Yale Child Study Center.

Robin Stern, Ph.D., is a licensed psychoanalyst, the Associate Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, and the author of The Gaslight Effect.

During the workshop, students will:

Boost their EQ

  • Learn how to be an ’emotion scientist’
  • Avoid destructive ways of thinking like negative self-talk
  • Strategize to actualize your ideal self and ideal reputation

Develop a personal brand

  • Create a polished resume and curated online presence
  • Learn how to tell a good story, both in writing and interviews
  • Develop a personal narrative that will “hook” admissions officers

Find direction

  • Recognize emotions and learn how to listen to themselves
  • Learn to write cover letters that leave a lasting impression
  • Discover a path towards their ideal life and career

Hone writing skills

  • Study our proprietary technique for crafting winning essays
  • Become a better reader and editor with constructive feedback techniques
  • Tap into inner creativity and discover how to express passion and personality
